“What is the ruling in Islaam for those who swear by the Qur’an?”
Shaykh Muhammad al-Imam (حفظه الله):
“It is permissible to swear by the Noble Qur’an with the majority of the people of knowledge, because the Qur’an is the Speech of Allah and the Speech of Allah is an attribute from the attributes of Allah.
Some of the Salaf disliked swearing by the Noble Qur’an, however it is permissible, although it is more virtuous to swear by Allah from the Attributes of Allah (عز و جل). As the Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: ‘By the One in who’s hand is my soul (i.e. Allah عز و جل).’ This is better and more appropriate.”

Allah commanded our father Ibraaheem saying,
“And proclaim to mankind the Hajj (pilgrimage). They will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, they will come from every deep and distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Hajj). [Soorah al-Hajj :27]
“And proclaim to mankind the Hajj” meaning, announce the pilgrimage to mankind and call them to perform pilgrimage to this House which We have commanded you to build. It was said that Ibraaheem said: “O Lord, how can I convey this to people when my voice will not reach them” It was said: “Call them and We will convey it.” So Ibraaheem stood up and said, “O mankind! Your Lord has established a House so come on pilgrimage to it.”
It is said that the mountains lowered themselves so that his voice would reach all the regions of the earth, and those who were still in their mothers’ wombs and their fathers’ loins would hear the call. The response came from everyone in the cities, deserts and countryside, and those whom Allah has decreed will make the pilgrimage, until the Day of Resurrection: “At Your service, O Allah, at Your service.” This is a summary of the narrations from Ibn ‘Abbaas, Mujaahid, `Ikrimah, Sa’id bin Jubayr and others among the Salaf. And Allah knows best. This was recorded by Ibn Jarir and by Ibn Abi Hatim at length. [Tafseer Ibn Kathir]
With the time of Hajj upon us, our Shaykh Hasan al-Banna (hafidhahullah) will enlighten us with respect to the story of Hajj according to the Book, the Sunnah and the narrations of our Salaf-us-Saalih.
We ask Allah to accept the Hajj of all our brothers and sisters and that He Al-Ghafoor, Ar-Raheem forgives us our sins and shortcomings.

Many texts from the Qur’aan and the Sunnah indicate that these first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah are better than all the other days of the year, including the last ten days of Ramadhaan. Our Salaf us Saalih(righteous predecessors), at the head of them, the Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa salaam) mentioned many of the virtues of these first ten days.
Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah than these ten days.” The people asked, “Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah?” He said, “Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing.” [Reported by Bukhaari, 2/457]
Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) also reported that the Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “There is no deed more precious in the sight of Allaah, nor greater in reward, than a good deed done during the ten days of Sacrifice.” He was asked, “Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah?” He said, “Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing.” [Reported by al-Daarimi, 1/357; its isnaad is hasan as stated in al-Irwaa’, 3/398]
These are just two of the many evidences mentioned by our Shaykh Fu’ad al-‘Amri (hafidhahullaah) in this highly beneficial reminder

An unfortunate disease that has plagued many of the Muslims today is that of seeking to obtain fame and status through the knowledge one has acquired or the desire to be put in the spotlight or in a leadership position.
The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) gave us a stern warning against this dangerous ambition.
He, (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), said “If anyone acquires knowledge of things by which Allaah’s good pleasure is sought, but acquires it only to get some worldly advantage, he will not experience the arf i.e. the odour of Paradise.” [Reported by Ahmad (2/338), Abu Daawood (3664), and others from Abu Hurayrah radiAllaahu ‘anhu. Authenticated by Shaykh al-Albaanee in Saheehul-Jaami (6159)]
In another narration the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) warned us by saying: “Do not learn the knowledge to amaze/stupefy by it the scholars, nor to delight against the foolish by it, nor to possess the gatherings by it. Whosoever does so, then the Fire, the fire.” [Reported by Abu Hurayrah in al-Faqeeh wal-Mutafaqqih of Khateeb al-Baghdaadee (2/88).]
And in yet another severe warning, the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said “…So the first to be summoned will be a man who learned knowledge and taught it and read the Qur’an. He will come with it and favours to him will be made known to him and he will recognise it. It will be said: What have you done by it? ‘He will say: ‘I studied the knowledge and taught it and recited for You the Qur’an. It will be said:
‘You have lied. Rather you studied the knowledge so that it would be said of you: ‘a scholar’ and you recited the Qur’an so it would be said of you: ‘a reciter.’ And that was said. Then he will be commanded and would be dragged on his face until he is thrown into the Fire… [Narrated by Muslim, an-Nasaaee (6/23-24), Ahmad (2/322) and others, from Abu Hurayrah.]
From the sayings of the salaf, it is reported that there was a young man who was from the people of knowledge who used to put himself forward, speak and behave haughtily with his knowledge in front of those older than him. This angered Sufyân [Ath-Thawrî] and he said, “The Salaf were never like this; they never used to claim leadership, or sit at the head of the gathering until they had sought this knowledge for thirty years, and you act haughty in front of those who are older than you. Get up, I never want to see you even come close to my circle.” [Al-Bayhaqi, Al-Madkhal ila Al-Sunan Al-Kubra 2:74.]
These narrations vividly illustrate the catastrophic outcome of insincerity in seeking knowledge and the dislike of seeking to be known and putting oneself forward.
Our Shaykh Muhammad al Imaam (hafidhahullaah) will delve into the issue of this disease of seeking fame and status which is of extreme importance to familiarize ourselves with so that we may safeguard ourselves from it.
We ask Allaah to unite us upon the haqq and to call to its pure teachings and save us from the differing and discord amongst ourselves.

Abu Dhar Jundub bin Junadah and Abu Abdul Rahman Mu’adh bin Jabal, radiyallahu anhuma, reported that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, said:
“O Mu’aadh, fear Allah wherever you are, and follow up a bad deed with a good one and it will wipe it out, and behave well towards people.”
[Al-Tirmidhi relates it, saying: It is a good (hasan) Tradition]
The taabi’ee Talq bin Habeeb said: “If an ordeal appears amongst you extinguish it with taqwa.”
When asked what is taqwa, he replied:
“Taqwa is that you act in obedience to Allaah, and hope in His mercy, upon a light from Him; and taqwa is leaving acts of disobedience to Allaah out of fear of Him, upon a light from Him.”
[Related by Ibn Abee Shaybah in Kitaabul-Eemaan (No. 99) and it was declared saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaanee]

Indeed, the Bankrupt Brotherhood has been amongst the sources of every tribulation and calamity to afflict theMuslims, and there is not a country but their degeneracy has entered it and caused the Muslims to split, divide and harbour, enmity and hatred amongst themselves. And this is especially amongst Ahl us Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah, the Salafees, Atharees. And in recent times, they entered the two main strains of Ikhwaani thought into the ranks of the Salafees, causing a fair share of them to fall into hizbiyyah, and to follow their beguilements. These two strains being the Bannaawee (B-Strain) and Qutubee (Q-Strain) modes of thought.
As for the B-Strain, then it is the accommodation of the Innovators, and remaining silent about them, and raising and promoting them, and making co-operation with them, and lowering the affair of their deviations and errors, and innovating false principles in order to accommodate them, and bring their false, deviant teachings into the ranks of Ahl us-Sunnah. And as for the Q-Strain, then it is revolving around takfeer of the Ummah, takfeer of nation states and whole government bodies, takfeer of the rulers, takfeer of the scholars, and calls to rebellion, revolt, and pointing fingers at the rulers for all the calamities of the Ummah, and to the scholars, and making these affairs as the basis of their call and da’wah and to which they call to in their private circles and gatherings. And both of these strains have their symptomatic signs, manifestations and associated doctrines and principles, which are clear to anyone whom Allaah has guided to the way of the Salaf and has given him firmness and rectitude upon it.
And indeed their fitnah has reached far and wide, and has corrupted the minds of many of the sincere youth, many of whom think they are upon the way of the Salaf, yet they are far removed from it, not knowing its reality, and not knowing its true and real manhaj and nor knowing its true adherents. And in more recent decades, these strains have been entered into the ranks of the Salafees by numerous front-men, stooges, whose strings are pulled by their Ikhwaani mentors, leaders and guides. We ask Allah Al-Aleem to benefit us in this lecture and open our hearts to the correct and sound belief and we ask Him, Al-Mudabbir to rectify the hearts of the muslimeen and guide us to that which will give us victory in this life and the next.

The questioner asks:
“What is Salafiyyah? Is it a Hizb? What is the ruling on ascribing to it?”
Al-‘Allâmah Sâlih al-Fawzân:
“Salafiyyah is the original affair. The madhab of the Salaf as-Sâlih (pious predecessors) – the Muhâjirûn and the Ansâr and those who followed them exactly (in Faith). (At-Tawbah 9:100). It is the original affair and whoever opposes it and exits from it is misguided. This ummah will split into 73 sects, all of them in the hell fire except for one; they (i.e. the companions) asked, “Who is it?” He said, “The one upon what I and my companions are upon today.” This is Salafiyyah; what the prophet – صلى الله عليه وسلم – and his companions were upon, and the Imams who came after them. This is Salafiyyah and it is the original affair. It is not what they say – a sect from the sects. No! It is the original affair and the sects are the ones that have split from it. Yes.”
