In the two Saheehs of Bukhaaree and Muslim the Prophet (sallallaahu-alaihi-wasallam) says: “Whoever introduces something into this affair of ours something which does not belong to it will have it rejected”[1]
Muslim adds in his Saheeh from Aa’ishah that the Prophet (sallallaahu-alaihi-wasallam) also said: “Whoever does an action which we have not commanded will have it rejected“[2]
Furthermore, one’s Ibaadah should be performed in accordance with the manner of the Messenger (sallallaahu-alaihi-wasallam) and that is his proven, authentic Sunnah. Abu Daawood in his Sunan reports from Ibn Eesa: “Whoever does an action in a way different from ours then it is rejected “[3]
Fudayl ibn Ayyaad, one of the taabi’een (second generation of muslims), said regarding the verse {…that He may test you, which of you is best in deeds}[4], “The most sincere and the most correct” So those who were around him said ” And what is the most sincere and the most correct? “
He replied “Action, if it is correct but not sincere will not be accepted and action, if it is sincere but not correct will not be accepted until it is both sincere and correct. Sincere means that nothing but the Face of Allaah is sought and correct means that it is in conformity with the Sunnah.”

فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُواْ لِي وَلاَ تَكْفُرُونِ
Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying, etc.). I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me. (Al-Baqarah 2:152)
This is a topic of utmost importance… Dhikr (remembrance) of Allah.
Imaam as-Sa’adee, rahimahullah, said that the Dhikr of Allah is one of the GREATEST means to attain success!
And look at how easy it is. It doesn’t cost money. It doesn’t make you tired or hungry. It doesn’t take you away from your business.
Yet how many of us are negligent in this. We should not simply reserve the time of prayer for the Remembrance of Allah. Rather we should remember Him in all of our affairs; while buying and selling, working, walking here and there, while doing household duties, and more….
And may Allah make us all from those mentioned in Surat al-Ahzaab:
وَالذَّاكِرِينَ اللَّهَ كَثِيراً وَالذَّاكِرَاتِ أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةً وَأَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
….And the men and the women who remember Allâh much with their hearts and tongues (while sitting, standing, lying, etc.), Allâh has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise). (Al-Ahzab 33:35)

He said, ‘Those men and women who remember Allaah much.’”For Further reading : What are the best righteous deeds after the obligatory duties?

From the Fiqh of al-Ad’iyyah wal-Adhkaar (calling upon and remembering Allah)

This lecture was given on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Masjid at-Tawheed in Stone Mountain, GA.
This talk is based on the book Fiqh al-Ad’iyyah wal-Adhkaar by our noble Sheikh Abdur-Razzaaq ibn Abdil-Muhsin al-Badr, and may Allah preserve them both. This book was actually a set of classes given by the Sheikh on a Quran Radio Station in Saudi Arabia. However, many of the students and scholars alike saw the tremendous benefit in these classes and requested him to compile them into a book. He did this and then sent it to the noble Sheikh ibn Baaz, rahimahullah, who read it and praised it.
You can also find this book as an ebook on the website of the Sheikh here :

And perhaps this will be an incentive for some to study the arabic language, in shaa Allah.
From the highlights of the talk is the mention of ibn Abbaas,
The shaytaan is sitting on the heart of the Son of Adam in wait. Once that heart becomes heedless, he begins to whisper. And when the person begins to remember Allah, he flees and is humiliated.
