It is not for a believer to kill a believer except by mistake; and whosoever kills a believer by mistake, he must set free a believing slave and submit compensation (blood money) to the deceased’s family unless they remit it. If the deceased belonged to a people at war with you and he was a believer, the freeing of a believing slave (is prescribed); and if he belonged to a people with whom you have a treaty of mutual alliance, then compensation (blood money) must be paid to his family, and a believing slave must be freed. And whoso finds this beyond his means, he must fast for two consecutive months in order to seek repentance from Allah. And Allah is Ever All-Knowing, All-Wise.And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein; and the wrath and the curse of Allah are upon him, and a great punishment is prepared for him. (Noble Qur’an an-Nisa 4:91-93)
‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, used to say to his companions: “Come on, so that we may increase our iman.”
The Imam of the Ahlus-Sunnah Ahmad ibn Hanbal, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked as to whether iman increases and decreases. He replied: “It increases until it reaches the highest part of the seventh heaven, and it decreases until it reaches the lowest part of the seventh plane.” He also used to say: ”Iman is speech and action. It increases and decreases. If you perform good deeds, it increases, and if you do wrong, it decreases.”

The greatest blessing Allaah, the Most High, can bestow upon a person in this world is the blessing of eemaan. It is as the author points out in his introduction the source to all the good in this world and H ereafter However; as the texts unequivocal show and as a simple glance at the various types of people will show, eema an is of levels. It is of degrees and forever fluctuating. This is a matter that a person can witness in himself: when he is active and obedient, he senses a strength of eemaan and when he is falling short of the mark and disobeying Allaah he feels that his eemaan is weak.

From ‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood radi-Allaahu ‘anhu who related that Allaah’s Messenger sal-Allaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam said: “Whoever has an atoms worth of kibr (pride) in his heart will not enter Paradise.” So a man said: What about a person who loves (i.e. takes pride in) wearing beautiful clothes and beautiful shoes? So he replied: “Indeed Allaah is beautiful and loves beauty. Kibr (pride) is to reject the truth, and to despise the people.” [Related by Muslim in his Saheeh (1/65)]
kibr of two types:-
- Pride against the truth: This is to reject the truth and not to accept it
- Pride towards people: This type is to despise the people, and to look down upon them. This attitude arises when a person is amazed with his own self, thinks highly of himself, and thinks he is better than others
As regards to inner beauty, then it is beautifying the character. This is why the Prophet sal-Allaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam used to supplicate:
“O Allaah! Guide me to having beautiful manners and characteristics, no one can guide me to beautifying them except You. And turn away from me all evil actions and characteristics, no one con turn them away from me except You.”
Related by an-Nasaa’ee (no.861). It was authenticated by al-Albaanee in his Sifatus-Salaah (p.93).

Shaykh al-‘Anjaree (حفظه الله تعالى) said:
“I wish, here, to mention an important issue.
A man called me, so he said, ‘I want to read to you an article that was published yesterday where it speaks about obedience to the Walee al-Amr (the Muslim ruler).’ He is the one who wrote the article. So after the end (of the article), he asked, ‘What is your opinion of the article, Aboo ‘Uthmaan?’ And he is ikhwaanee, from the sons of Jam’iyyatul-Islaah al-Ijtimaa’iyyah, as though he was trying to say ‘we [ikhwaanul-Muslimeen] speak about obedience to the Walee al-Amr.’
So I said to him: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) came with al-Mufassal (that which is detailed and specific). When the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) came, (he came) with al-Mufassal. And this is a faariq (that which distinguishes and differentiates) between the da’watul-Haqq (the da’wah of the Truth) and all of the other da’waat.
So beware, O ‘Abdullaah, of the mujmalaat (the generalities)! The mujmalaat – our da’wah is the da’watus-Salafiyyah. From the mujmalaat is seeking knowledge (talabul-‘Ilm), a general statement. From the mujmalaat is giving importance to the books of Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah. From the mujmalaat is (saying) “I am a graduate of the the Islaamic University (of al-Madeenah)”. From the mujmalaat is “Obedience to the Walee al-Amr is obligatory”. From the mujmalaat is warning against the takfeerees.
