Ashoora (10th Muharram) – Between Sunnah & Bida – Shaykh Abdullah an-Najmi [Audio|Ar-En]

Ashoora - Between Sunnah & Bida - Shaykh Abdullah an-Najmi

Bismillah wa -Alhamdulillah wa Salaatu wa Salaam ‘alaa Rasulillah ‘amma ba’d

The Noble Shaykh ‘Abdullah an-Najmi (May Allah Preserve Him) from the mashaayikh of JeezanSaudi Arabia  is a student of Ash-Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmi (rahimahullah) and Shaykh Zayd al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullah).

Ibn ‘Abbaas (radhiyAllahu ‘anhumaa) reported, “The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)observed Saum (fasting) on the day of ‘Ashoora and commanded us to fast on this day.” [Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]

Abu Qatadah (radhiyAllahu ‘anhu) reported, The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was asked about observing As-Saum (the fast) on the tenth day of Muharram, and he replied, “It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year.” [Muslim]

Ibn ‘Abbaas (radhiyAllahu ‘anhumaa) reported, The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “If I remain alive till the next year, I shall also observe fast on the ninth of Muharram.” [Muslim]

Despite these clear cut ahadeeth, there are many accursed innovations practiced on this day particularly by the Shi’a who claim to mourn the murder of al-Husayn (radhiyAllahu ‘anhu) by performing acts which blatantly oppose the Sunnah of the Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

Reiterating this point, Shaykh Ibn Baaz (rahimahullah) stated, “Again, mourning on the Day of ‘Ashoora` is one of the condemned Bid‘ahs introduced by ar-Raafidhah, with which they contradicted Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jamaa‘ah (those adhering to the Sunnah and the Muslim main body), and the path of the Sahaabah(Companions of the Prophet). Consequently, it is not permissible to imitate them in this matter.”

Reference: Ibn Baaz, ‘Abdul ‘Azeez. “Hadith: Anyone who bathes on the Day of ‘Ashuraâ will not be sick during that whole year.” The General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta.  (accessed November 6, 2013).

Shaykh ‘Abdullah an-Najmi (hafidhahullah) will clarify for us the established Sunan of the day of ‘Ashoora`and by the Permission of Allah refute the acts of innovation associated with it according to the Qur’aan andSunnah upon on the understanding of the Salaf-us-Saalih.

We ask Allah to guide us to all that He loves and is pleased with and that He protects us from falling into innovation in the Deen.

Important – Muharram 1434H (2012CE)

Muharram began on 15 November according to Saudi Arabia (please note that local sightings may differ). Therefeore, Ashura will be 24 November 2012 in Saudi Arabia.

“Verily, the number of months with Allah is twelve months (in a year), so it was ordained by Allah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them, four are sacred. That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein … “ [Al-Qur'an 9:36]

Abu Bakarah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“The year is twelve months of which four are sacred, the three consecutive months of Dhul-Qa’dah, Dhul-Hijjah and Muharram, and Rajab Mudar which comes between Jumadah and Sha’ban.” [Reported by al-Bukhari, 2958]

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said:”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

‘The best of fasting after Ramadhan is fasting Allah’s month of Muharram.’ ” [Reported by Muslim, 1982]

Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:

“I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) so keen to fast any day and give it priority over any other than this day, the day of ‘Ashura’, and this month, meaning Ramadhan.” [Reported by al-Bukhari, 1867]

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“For fasting the day of ‘Ashura’, I hope that Allah will accept it as expiation for the year that went before.” [Reported by Muslim, 1976]

Every year on the evening of October 31st, millions of children across the world paint their faces, dress up in costumes and go door to door collecting treats. The adults often decorate their houses with ghostly figures, carve scary faces on pumpkins and put candles in them to create “Jack-O-Lanterns.”

Unfortunately, amongst the millions of people indulging in this custom, many are also Muslims. This talk will shed some light on the significance and origins of Halloween and why Muslims should not participate in it. (Text Source:

Hajj and Tawheed – Dr. Saleh as-Saleh [Audio Book|En]

Hajj is an act of worship that must be devoted only to Allaah. It is a declaration and a manifestation of the belief in the Oneness (tawheed) of Allaah. It is a time to call upon Allaah to purify the self from any worship to other than Him.

The Muslim who declares the talbiyah: (Labbaika allaahumma labbaik. labbaika laa shareeka laka labbaik; innal-hamda wan-ni’mata laka wal mulk, laa shareeka lak) understands that it is a du’aa that means: “Here I am O Allaah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Surely all praise is due to You, and every bounty is from You, and all dominion is Yours, and You have no partner.”

The Muslim, therefore, should submit himself completely (mentally, spiritually, and physically) to Allaah Alone. No worship should be devoted to statues, tombs, religious leaders, righteous men (dead or alive) or any part of the creation!

The tawheed of Allaah requires the Muslim to follow the perfect way of worship. This is the way (sunnah) of Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam as understood by the sahaabah (the companions of the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam), who were the best of mankind.

# Death Will Not Arrive Until Your Sustenance Is Completed – Abu Hakeem [Audio|En]

Today’s (12/09/14) amazing khutbah at Masjid as-Salafi. In a time wherein every individual worries regarding their sustenance, their wealth, many turn to that which is haram (forbidden) to attain their income. Abu Hakeem speaks with clarity, citing Qur’anic verses and Prophetic narrations to leave no doubt that “Death will not arrive until your sustenance is completed.”

What has been written for you of the sustenance will surely come to you before your death, even if you tried to flee from it and lock yourselves in a fortress:

Jaabir bin `Abdullaah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“Even if the son of Aadam were to flee from his sustenance as he tries to flee from death, his sustenance will still overtake him in the same way as death overtakes him.”
